Can You Really Make Money With The Poshmark App?

is wealthy affiliate a scam or can i actually mae a six figure income online as an affiliate marketer

I had never heard of this app before sitting down to write about it—so what you are about to hear is a 100% unbiased, first-hand account of my first experiences with it. But can you really make money with the Poshmark App?

I read that it was basically an app that you could use to buy and sell clothing… but I was admittedly a bit skeptical. I mean, isn’t that idea kind of already taken? (Ebay does it, if nobody else.)

But I was determined to see what so many people had seen in it.

Making Money With The Poshmark App

Here’s what I found out over the course of my research, starting with the basics.

What Is Poshmark?

Poshmark is labeled as ‘the new way to buy and sell fashion.’ Here are a few quotes from within the app description.

“Shop over 5,000 brands in every size—including plus sizes, petites, juniors—at up to 70% off retail. Sell and turn your closet into cash. List your items for free!”

I figured out pretty quickly that this app basically allows you to sell your used clothing… but some of the tools that they give you to work with really help to set it apart from other sites that do similar things. It is, admittedly, different than I expected it to be, and I will outline those differences in this review.

The app has been downloaded over 5 million times on the Google Play Store, and has 4.2 stars after having been reviewed by over 30,000 users—so it definitely has a healthy user base.

Here’s what we found out after opening the app.

Getting Started With Poshmark

Logging into Poshmark was easy, because it gave me the option to log in using Facebook. As usual, the applet me know that it would receive my public profile, friend list, and email address… but this is not at all unusual, so I clicked ‘continue.’

Next, I was taken to a signup screen.

Poshmark Sign Up Screen

After completing this, I was taken to a screen that said ‘complete your profile.’ I was asked here to input my shoe size and my shirt size. Both were optional—but I did it anyway.

Then I was taken to a page where they asked me to follow at least 3 brands that I love to shop for. Here was what the page looked like, along with some of the options…

Poshmark Brand Selector

And next, I was taken to a page where I could find friends from my Facebook contacts who were already members of Poshmark, or invite new friends who had not yet joined it.

I just skipped this part and moved on.

I was then taken to this screen… which seemed to be the main ‘hub’ of my Poshmark profile.

What Poshmark Has To Offer

So, it’s pretty obvious that you can buy clothes on Poshmark—but it was unclear to me what made this app different from Ebay. So I started to look around, and found out a little more about how it operated and set itself apart.

First of all, I found out that the ‘hub’ was actually a ‘feed,’ where I could see a number of different types of information when I logged in. This information ranged from people to follow, to products listed that belonged to the brands that I liked, to listings shared by some select individuals (other followed Poshmarkians, I guess you could say).

Next, I checked out the ‘shop’ feature. This feature makes it easy to look for the types of products that you want, and will allow you to shop by brand, by style, or by joining ‘parties,’ which seem to be online events where you can find select types of clothing.

There is also a ‘News’ section, where you can see recent activity from other users who have followed you, or that you have followed.

I also found out that you get $0.99 shipping for your first purchase when you sign up for Poshmark, which is awesome!

You can also edit your profile via the button at the bottom right of the screen that has your username on it.

Figuring Out How Poshmark Works

So at this point, I was beginning to figure out exactly how this app worked. Basically, individuals can make an account, post pictures of their clothing on the marketplace (there are even some photo editing tools that make doing so easy and professional-looking), and add that clothing to their ‘closet.’

This is basically their clothing collection, which other people can then shop in once they have connected with you.

Poshmark has a unique theme going for it in that it seems to cater to this idea of personalized style, and pairing it with the ‘closet’ idea. So, in other words, if you liked the style of one article of clothing that someone posted, then following that person and checking out their ‘closet’ might reveal additional items of a style that you might like.

The more people you follow who are ‘your style,’ the more likely you will be to fill your closet with awesome clothing that fits your tastes and preferences (and budget).

And therein is really the entire point of Poshmark. To raid other people’s closets for awesome deals on clothing that would otherwise cost you too much money to be affordable.

You also get awesome shipping options with Poshmark. Selling and sending the clothing off to the buyer is made super easy with pre-paid, pre-addressed shipping labels that you can print out and use.

This actually makes the process of shipping your products a lot easier. Ebay has done similar things, but this feature is built right into Poshmark—which is really nice.

Posting Items On Poshmark

When you click the ‘sell’ button at the bottom of the main screen, you will be taken to a screen that looks like this.

Poshmark Camera

This is the camera picture, and will enable you to take a photo of the product so that you can use the image on your profile.

You will then be taken to the editing screen, where you can apply a filter to the picture to make it look as professional as possible. The filters are all pretty good. I was actually impressed by this part of the process.

Photo Editing In Poshmark

The next part of the process is to fill in the listing details. For this part, you need to fill in some basic information about the product that you are wanting to sell, including the name of what you are selling, a description of it, its category, its brand, its color, etc.

Poshmark Listing Details

I filled out some of this information to get to the next page. A lot of the options were multiple choice, and there were quite a few to scroll through—but all in all, this process was pretty simple. 0At the bottom of the page, it told me to set a price. I set the price on my mock-listing for $10, and it said that I would be getting $7.05 back in profit—so there seem to be a few fees to take care of before you can actually collect your earnings—which is understandable.

The last step, before listing your post, is to select where you would like to list it. You can share it on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. And obviously, your listing will also go on the Poshmark marketplace itself.

Is Poshmark Right For You?

Can you really make money on Poshmark?

Yes. In fact, we’ve got a whole list other apps for selling clothing you can browse too.

How much can you make in how much time?

This completely depends on your clothing collection, on how many items you post, and on how appealing those items are to other people. Payments are processed right within Poshmark, which is nice. When you make a sale, your money goes into one of three different categories—credits, pending, or redeemable.

Managing your money on Poshmark is pretty easy. If you wish to withdraw funds from your account, you can just go to ‘my balance,’ and click on the redeemable option. Then you can choose whether you want it to be direct deposited, or if you would like to make a check request instead.

Personally, I feel like this app could be a really awesome tool for a lot of people. I am a bit of a minimalist—so the idea of pairing down my closet size and making some money at the same time is pretty appealing.

This app makes this process seem super easy.

It works well. It’s intuitive. It’s well-designed. It’s fast. It makes money-handling and shipping super simple, and it does a great job of giving you shopping options to guide you toward purchases that might be more in-line with what you’re looking for.

Granted, it might not be the right thing for everyone. People who don’t tend to buy a lot of clothing might not have a lot of use for Poshmark, as they will likely not have much clothing to sell, either. But, then again, even someone with just a few odds and ends pieces to get rid of could benefit greatly from downloading it, especially since it’s free.

The fees and shipping that are taken out will pare down your earnings a bit, but this is, in my mind, a small price to pay for the large user base and user-friendly interface.

All in all, I will say that I was definitely a fan!

Final Review

Honestly, when you calculate the time spent trying to make money with apps, it rarely works out to be more than a few dollars per hour. Most of the time, you’ll only make a few dollars per month. Personally, I think my time is worth more than that!
