NuCerity
Company Name: NuCerity
Costs: Unclear startup fee + products
Rating: 31/100
Note: NuCerity is now Ariix.
What Is It?
NuCerity is an MLM that focuses almost exclusively on skincare, which includes some eye care creams and other products that you might expect.
Short Review
At its heart, NuCerity is a fairly standard MLM and it has all of the issues that go along with that. The company also has products that are overpriced with little to make them stand out above all of the other skincare products on the market. While the lucky few might be able to make money from this company, the vast majority of distributors wouldn’t be able to.

Product Breakdown
The product range for NuCerity looks fairly typical for a company that emphasizes skincare.
One of the first interesting things is that their product range is extremely small. Based on the information the site provides, there are just six different products. These products tackle different areas of skincare. For example, there is one exfoliator product, one moisturizer, and one eye care product.
My first impression is that the company is trying to give an impression of high-end luxury products. After all, if a company specialized in just six products, that does imply that the company is very good at making those products. In theory, that would mean that the products are of much higher quality than what you would find elsewhere.
Of course, that theory isn’t always true in practice – especially not when it comes to MLMs. Keep reading to find out why.
Are The Products Worth It?
Skincare products are everywhere. Many different companies specialize in them, ranging from very cheap options to very expensive ones. The real question with NuCerity’s products is whether there is anything about them that makes them better than other brands.
The answer is honestly – who knows?
On their site, the company does focus on providing some scientific background for each product. That information reinforces what the product is supposed to do and uses lots of keywords to make the product sound amazing.
The problem is that those descriptions could really apply to any similar product. For example, these are some of the points given for the company’s exfoliator. The points are extremely general and they could really apply to any exfoliator on the market.
What makes this product special or unique?
Skincare products are a natural choice for MLM companies, because it is an area that people get excited about and because it’s really hard to objectively compare one skincare product to another. Instead, people end up relying on emotions, such as which product or brand makes them feel better.
At the same time, people tend to assume that more expensive products are going to feel better. Likewise, products from an MLM like this one also come with a fair amount of hype and over-the-top claims. All of those patterns can help to convince people that the skincare products from NuCerity are wonderful – even before the person actually tries the product.
There is also one more problem.
When people try a skincare product for a specific issue or condition, they do often find that it works. So, they might stick with the product and rave about it. But often, similar products will have similar outcomes, and a much less expensive one much work just as well as something from this company.
For example, this is the ratings given for one of the company’s products:
At an average of 3.5 or so, the product certainly isn’t immensely popular. For me, the expert rating is what I find more interesting because it is simply rated at one star.
This particular product has actually been pretty controversial. The product itself offers a ‘breathable barrier’, which is supposed to act as a moisturizer while people sleep. As you might imagine, the claims for the product do feel a bit exaggerated:
Much of the controversy for the product comes from the fact that it contains acetone, which many people find concerning. Now, granted, the product uses a clinical form of acetone, but it’s still acetone. I doubt many people would be comfortable applying that to their face.
The reviews and the price for that one product pretty much sum up what I’ve found about the product line as a whole.
For one thing, the products are expensive. Take the product I mentioned above. That was $129.95 for either one or two tubes. Those tubes contain 1 fl oz of liquid each. So, you really aren’t getting much for your money.
In most cases, what NuCerity offers isn’t likely to be much better than products that cost half as much. At the end of the day, there is simply no proof that the company offers anything worth even close to what they are charging their consumers.
Yet, they do have customers. The reason for that comes down to the MLM side of things.
Opportunity Breakdown
An MLM company always has two sides, their products, and their opportunity. Regardless of whether you were interested in the products or in the opportunity, you really do have to consider both, because they are so strongly interrelated.
So, let’s start off with the company’s own introduction to their opportunity:
I can see the problem already. That claim makes the opportunity sound great, but it doesn’t actually say anything useful. For the most part, you could take that same claim and apply it to any home-based business – and trust me, there are a lot of those.
The thing is, NuCerity doesn’t actually have a unique opportunity. It really doesn’t. What it offers is the same general approach that just about every other MLM offers.
Like other similar companies, people join NuCerity as Independent Distributors. They then buy products from the company at wholesale prices and turn around and sell them for a profit. For example, the Skincerity product I mentioned earlier actually has a distributor price of $65 and the company recommends that members sell it at $129.95.
That’s a huge potential for profit… in theory anyway.
The problem is that you are selling pretty expensive products, and getting people to buy them at full price is going to be difficult. Plus, you are competing against other distributors, which means the prices you sell at would have to match the market, not the profit margin you would like.
This is also not even taking into account that as product prices go up, people become more discerning about which brands they use, and Nucerity simply doesn’t have the brand recognition of other, more popular brands.
Even if you could make a few sales, the real difficult part of running a sustainable home-based business is this: after all you are selling expensive and specialized products, you still have to lock in people who are going to consistently make purchases…or find a constant flow of new, one-time buyers.
The Recruitment Part
The term MLM stands for multi-level marketing, and it refers specifically to the recruitment side of the business.
People can earn money simply by selling products, but that’s not the emphasis. Instead, members are supposed to recruit others into the company and build up a team under themselves. Many of the bonuses that people get come from the size of that team and its success.
As members progress through the company, they also earn ranks. Those ranks are directly related to your profit. For example, in the third rank (silver) you earn from the people one generation below you in your team (the people you recruit). In the next rank, you can earn from two generations, and so on.
Advancing through the ranks is connected to how much you sell and how big your team is and it can be a complicated challenge, especially when you need to motivate and help people in your team. Now you’re a leader, and not just responsible for your own sales numbers!
As you can see, there is considerable potential for making money if you could make it to those very high ranks. The problem is that most people simply don’t. Doing so is a lot of work and it involves making a lot of connections. That’s hard for anyone to do, especially for people with little previous experience.
Limitations of the System
For some people, MLMs are a legitimate way to make money. So, some people who sell NuCerity will actually be making a decent income from it. Many more people won’t be. To really be successful you have to drink the Koolaid and go “all in”.
Because the structure relies so strongly on recruitment and team building, the best way to make money is to have a large number of people under you. That can be pretty hard to set up because you have to recruit others into the program and then you have to make sure that they are successful in it.
After all, many of your bonuses are based on how much your team earns.
That brings me to a second major limitation. With an MLM, you can’t control how much you earn. Instead, the success of your team plays a pretty large role in your own income.
Personally, I hate that idea. It means that you never really know what is going to happen, especially as team members may well leave for their own reasons or they may simply not be productive. If you are going to have your own business, you want to be the one in control of your income, otherwise, you can never really be secure.
As someone that currently earns online income, I prefer to be more independent and run my websites as a one-woman show.
A final issue is that you are buying products than turning around and selling them.
Advocates of the company would probably say that you need to ‘spend money to make money’ and yes, that’s true. But, that is only true if you are following a sensible strategy, to begin with.
Buying product to sell it is hard, because you have to try to buy what people want, and you have to try and make sure that you aren’t left with extra stock. If you get that balance wrong, you spend more than you make. Getting the balance right is possible, but distributors are asked to do this right from the start when most have no experience of how to do that effectively.
If you don’t’ have a strong mentor, to begin with – someone that can show you the proper way to do it – the first few months of business could get pretty expensive.
At the end of the day, companies like NuCerity work best for people with large networks of friends that they can sell to and recruit. Either that or for folks that have years of experience in network marketing and have online friends that are open to new opportunities. If you had a big enough network and solid networking skills, then you might just be able to make the MLM structure work.
But, for everyone else, the company would end up being simply a time and a money sink.
Other Comments
MLMs always look so good on paper and you’ll always find distributors who rave about how much money they make and how great the products are. There’s also a lot of placebo effect that comes into play, with distributors being extremely biased about the products they ‘test’. After all, they want you to sign up or buy things.
That’s why MLMs often look so great from the outside because a lot of folks are not really being transparent. There’s a lot of “fake it ’til you make it” going on.
MLM VS Affiliate Marketing
MLMs often ends up being an expensive lesson for people who are trying to break into the work from the home scene. The thing is, you can make money through your own business without that much financial risk at all. My favorite approach for making money is affiliate marketing and one of the reasons that I like it is that it is low risk and low cost.
With affiliate marketing, you use the internet to promote products from companies that you choose. There are thousands of options out there for companies, so you can pick ones that sell products you like. You can even promote products from competing companies on the same page!
The great thing is that you don’t have to recruit others and you don’t have to buy anything yourself. You don’t even make each sale personally, instead, that is done through your website. That gives you a much greater potential to expand your business beyond the borders of your city, state, and country.
