This site is classified as a ‘mock jury’ website, and claims to pay you for sitting on a ‘mock jury.’ At first, I wasn’t quite sure why this would be something that you would get paid for. However, as I looked into it more, I began to realize that there is actually a fairly substantial number of sites in this niche.

But can you really make money with the EJury website (eJury.com)?

How You Make Money With The EJury Website

First of all, I needed to do some research about what a ‘mock jury’ even was. I had no idea what this might be, or why people might get paid to sit in on one. But as I read about it, I became aware that this is actually a much more common thing than even I ever realized. Apparently, mock juries are useful in a number of different situations.

As it turns out, lawyers and law firms use them to test their cases before presenting them in court. They can ask mock jurors questions about the case and the presented facts/evidence, and see what the feedback is.

Would they win? Would the jury feel that there were holes in the evidence? What would public opinion in this country and demographic be at this certain time, and how might that affect this case?

These are all questions that a mock jury can help a lawyer or law firm with, and it is actually much more important than one might think that these cases get tested. Sometimes, when lawyers and/or law firms are surrounded by case details 24/7, they need a fresh perspective—and that is what a mock jury can offer them.

It also helps from a ‘market test’ perspective, to see what potential jurors in the same demographic might tend to think when shown the same argument.

And in exchange for their services and fresh perspective, mock jurors are financially compensated.

As I said before, this is certainly a more common thing than I first realized, and since learning about it, I have already located like 3 or 4 different sites that are said to pay mock jurors for their time… with eJury.com being the first on my list. Other key sites are Jury Talk, Online Verdict and Virtual Jury.

My interest in these types of sites is as a side hustle. I like the idea of earning extra cash with side-hustles, and I also love the idea of doing it on my own time.

But I was still curious about eJury.com. How much money could you actually make while using it? Was it profitable? Was it flexible? Was it going to provide me with any kind of ‘consistent’ income?

These were the main questions that I had, so the next step was to take a closer look.

Here is what I found.

My First Impression Of EJury.com

My first impression of the site actually wasn’t that good. To me, the home page lacked class and energy. It consisted of a ‘dated’ looking lettering/graphic layout, and it was actually really small. I had to enlarge it on my computer screen just to get a good screenshot of it.

I was using Google Chrome as a browser, so maybe it looks different in other browsers. But all I know is that I was not really impressed with it at this point.

I noticed that there were pretty much three main sections on the site. There was a section for attorneys, a section for jurors, and a section called ‘about us.’ I decided to look into the latter section first, as I still really didn’t know where to go or what to do at this point.

I clicked on this, and was taken to a page labeled ‘About Us,’ but all it really gave me was four links.

I decided to click on ‘Company Bio’ first, and was instantly taken to a page that pretty much gave me the run-down of how the site started, what they do, and who they are.

As for how they got started, they were founded by a trial attorney named Christopher L. Bagby, and they began operations in November of 1999. They say in this bio that ‘eJury has quickly become a leader in online mock jury and focus group research, handling hundreds of cases for attorneys across the southwest and now serving attorneys nationwide.’

As far as what they do, this is what they say in the next section.

“eJury provides attorneys the opportunity to learn what others think about their cases.”

The point of it seems to be that mock juries, like this, do not cost nearly as much as traditional courtroom focus-groups—so that is pretty cool.

From the sound of it, the company started from small, somewhat humble beginnings. I am not sure if they are actually a leader in this sort of thing online, but it does sound like they got in on the ground floor of the service (and the idea)… that is for sure.

But so far, I still had no idea how much a ‘mock trial’ paid. So I decided to go to the ‘Jurors’ section of the site to try to figure this out.

Here is what I found.

On this page, there was a ‘Learn About’ link that actually seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. So I clicked on it and got started with my research.

First of all, here is a step-by-step rundown of how the site works.

Step 1: The attorney presents the prepared case, consisting of facts from both sides of the case and the jury questions, along with any personal questions that are designed to obtain additional feedback, to the mock jurors.

Step 2: The website converts the information into a simple html format file and posts it to a very secure location on the website where only eJurors from the county that is selected can access the details. Jurors from each county are notified by email when a new case has been posted in their county, so you will not need to keep checking back in with the site to see if there are new cases. I liked this about it.

And Step 3: The Ejurors review the case and the facts. They then answer the questions that they were asked about the case, and submit their verdict when they are all done. Cases are usually concluded after 50 verdicts have been collected, and a case study is then posted later, which allows everyone involved to see a summary of the information.

To qualify to be able to use this site, you need to be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, of ‘sound mind and good moral character,’ able to read and write, and have never been convicted of a felony. You must also not be under indictment or any legal accusation of a crime that is a misdemeanor theft, or a felony of any kind.

In addition, you must NOT be…

A practicing attorney, legal assistant, or paralegal
Employed by any law firm or attorney
Related to a practicing attorney within the first degree of affinity or within the second degree of consanguinity
Be employed by an insurance adjuster, or be associated, through your work, with any sort of ability claims adjustment

Ejury Pay Rates & How To Get Paid

I also learned how much you make using this site. Jurors get paid $5 to $10 per case, depending on the length of the case, and it usually takes about 35 minutes to complete a study. Payments are also made via PayPal, which is pretty awesome.

They say right on the site that this site won’t make you rich, but that even if you get one case per week, it could pay for your internet bill (well, probably not pay for it. Internet is expensive these days!).

At any rate, at this point, I felt like I had learned enough about the site to form an opinion about it. Here is what I found.

EJury Reviews

I scoured the internet to find some honest reviews of EJury to figure out if people are actually getting paid. The truth is, 90% of the Ejury reviews out there are not from people who have completed tasks and gotten paid. Even of the people who did complete the tasks, very few reported getting any paid work.

I even did a bit more digging into YouTube, and found that “Ejury style” website reviews were getting very low view counts. What this says to me is that this is not a very popular way to earn money online. The video below is more than 3 years old and only has 2000 views. That’s about 2 people per day for 3+ years.

EJury Reviews on Reddit: Reddit is one of my favorite places to check out for honest reviews because people are brutally honest, and they are vigilant about not allowing promotions, or for picking apart disinformation. Reddit is legit!

Even on Reddit, I could only find two threads with people who had actually done online jury work before: here and here. A couple people mentioned getting paid, but it was years ago, and nobody was doing it as a consistent gig.

Is Ejury A Scam?

No, Ejury is not a scam. However, I wouldn’t hold my breath for this company! It sounds like on a select few people are able to qualify for jobs, and of that group, only a few will earn a decent amount of money. This is not a scam, but I feel like the people who promote it are exaggerating how much money you can make from it.

Usually, the scam is from the reviewer, where they just want to make an unfounded claim that you can earn a bunch of side income in order to get you to subscribe to their YouTube channel!

Is The EJury.com Website Legit?

I feel like this site does have some potential. It is legit in the sense that it’s not scamming people! The thing that surprised me was that it is county-specific, so if I am understanding it correctly, you would only get the opportunity to answer questions about cases being presented in your own country.

That kind of limits the pool of jobs, and gives some counties a unique increased chance at getting work.

The only downside is that this also has a flipside. In some counties, there may not be anyone using it. And in others, there might be so many users competing for work that you may never get a chance. There are a total of 64 million account members worldwide on EJury, so that is certainly quite a few people.

But still, I feel like the site has some potential merit. I am not sure that it qualifies as an actual side-hustle, through and through, but I do feel pretty good about it as a method for making a bit of extra cash, when the occasion calls for it—so that is a good thing!
